The Machine Operator located in Georgetown, Ontario is responsible for performing operations in preparation, connection, assembly and inspection of various parts into heated components. In this role, the Machine Operator will provide assistance to other Assemblers when necessary. This position is rotating 2 weeks of days and 2 weeks of afternoons. The afternoon shift comes with a 7.5% shift premium.

Machine Operator Duties & Responsibilities

The duties of the Machine Operator include, but are not limited to:

• Read the blueprints and job instruction sheets to determine proper set up procedure, machining sequence, and dimensions of finished component;

• Perform set up and operation of conventional, special-purpose, and numerical control (NC) machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts, and fit and assemble machined components into complete units;

• Select and/or prepare tooling for these operations; • Observe displays on control panel and compare with data on process sheet to verify dimensional adjustments, feed rates and speeds or machining cuts when possible;

• Ensure components are machined in accordance to required specifications;

• Ensure effective production of quality parts by checking blueprint or sketches, using gauges, indicators, bore gauge and other measuring equipment;

• Observes and listens to machine operation in order to detect malfunctions such as worn or damaged cutting tools when possible;

• Notify Team Leader and/or Lead Hand when run times are incorrect or product will not meet time lines;

• Ensure machining tasks are completed in accordance with specified run times;

• Conduct minor preventative maintenance procedures as scheduled;

• Complete minor troubleshooting as required;

• Report discrepancies to the appropriate department;

• Ensure ISO guidelines are followed; follow Job Instruction Sheets and Tag Procedures etc;

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The incumbent of this role should have a High School Diploma with a minimum of six (6) months related experience, and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A strong attention to detail, ability to work in a fast-paced environment and excellent organizational skills are required. The incumbent must be capable of reading and interpreting documents such as safety policy and procedures, blueprints, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. The ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and management is a requirement.
