Position Summary

The Senior Accountant is a highly skilled, knowledge-driven role with broad accounting experience, strong organizational communication and analytical skills to deploy across the transactional nature of the business. The Senior Accountant will work closely with the Director of Finance and Accounting Manager to achieve business objectives through record keeping and compliance while working to align and supervise tasks within the accounting team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for revenue recognition accounting compliance and accounts receivable
Oversee the daily invoicing, collections, and cash application process. Implement improvements to reduce the time required to perform these activities daily.
Analyze financial performance vs. quarterly forecast, vs. plan, and vs. prior year and effectively communicate results to management.
Key contributor of the annual operating plan, quarterly forecasting, and long-range financial projection processes.
Develop & grow strong professional relationships with the Red Valve sales team and third-party sales representatives. Coordinate the review & validation of commissions earned by independent sales representatives monthly.
Prepare monthly commission statements, payment requests, and the journal entries necessary to properly accrue and pay third party sales commissions.
Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations supporting the monthly general ledger close process in the ERP (EPICOR).
Streamline submission of existing monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting submissions to HFM and FINPLAN (Hillenbrand planning and forecasting consolidation information systems)
Provide accounting assistance to department managers and operations staff; respond to financial questions/concerns to meet business needs.
Oversee and assist in the monthly and quarterly sales and use tax filings.
Maintain a general understanding of GAAP and other accounting functions, cross-training to fill in when necessary.
Other duties and special assignments, as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities
This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities. 

Education
Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) or equivalent from a college or university with a focus in Accounting or Finance; and a minimum of 6 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills/Experience
6+ years of accounting/finance experience in an industrial manufacturing environment, preferably in a low volume/high mix, highly engineered manufacturing environment
Acts with strong sense of urgency with keen attention to detail (expert)
Flexibility to adapt to deadlines, changing schedules, priorities, and unpredictable events within a fast-paced manufacturing environment (expert)
Understanding of GAAP in a standard cost environment. (expert)
Experience with Microsoft Office (intermediate), preferably expert level in Excel
Practical experience in financial modeling and forecasting (intermediate)
Experience utilizing an ERP system, preferably Epicor and/or a financial consolidation system (intermediate)
Practical knowledge of Lean/continuous improvement business practices (basic)

Travel
Less than 15% overnight travel is required.
