The Technical Sales Engineer (TSE) is responsible for the coordination of the application activities within the assigned territory for complex or unqualified orders and orders of a significant value that cannot be handled within the Engineering Value Stream or STAMP accounts.   Working in concert with Technical Field Sales, the TSE will be the main point of contact for the customer and create reasonable and efficient product design/development engineering solutions.

 

The TSE will look for the next opportunity within the customer (prospecting) for additional sales.  The successful incumbent will be responsive to the customer and drive the project/order through Mold-Masters processes in an effective and efficient manner; this will include development of quotations (pricing), technical review of new orders and subsequent project management.

 

Additionally, the Technical Sales Engineer will be the first point of contact to assist the customer in troubleshooting technical issues. The TSE will gain an understanding and make recommendations to resolve the issue or may make the decision to transfer the issue to Master Care and be responsible for coordinating additional personnel to the customer site to resolve the problem.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

 

  • Support of the Sales Process and work in tandem with Field Sales:
    • When speaking with Customers, looks for opportunities for the next sale promptly and effectively;
    • Prospecting - Builds Customer relationships and a network;
  • Has superior product knowledge of Mold-Masters products and has the ability to communicate features, technical capability and new product offerings to Customers;
  • Has a basic understanding of Competitors product offerings to support the sale of the Mold Masters brand;
  • Leads and/or supports the Value Proposition created by Field Sales when dealing with the Customer by matching the technical solution to the sale;
  • Understands the Customer requirements and pushes the project/order through the process;

 

  • Applications: 
  • Respond to technical queries from the customers and Sales team;
  • Assess feasibility and propose technical solutions for applications;
  • Prepare quotations for proposed technical solution. Negotiate price as required under the prescribed standards;
  • Review technical data of application, integration of hot runner system and mold design to ensure successful application of hot runner system;
  • Organize and lead technical review meetings to ensure orders and technical requirements of customers are identified and that the order specification will meet customer requirements and expectations;
  • Assess and analyze the applications for resin specifications, gate locations etc., and recommend simulation analysis as required for the project to ensure conclusive results; then evaluate the results to suggest best solution to customers.
  • As the main point of contact to the customer, the TSE is required to coordinate the project plan for the order through the process to meet the required time line of the customer e.g. prototyping, design, manufacturing, testing, quality, development of quotations, etc.
  • First point of contact for troubleshooting systems, will make the decision to transfer issues to Master Care; Advise whenever field service is recommended;
  • Review technical feasibility of special spare parts;
  • Accountable for keeping customers and sales representatives informed; For STAMP customers, communication with the Customer is required at a higher level along with the STAMP Customer Service Representatives;
  • Keep up to date with the latest technological developments and trends related to hot runners systems, hot halves and related components by attending training courses and industry meetings and reading specialist literature;

 

    • Engineering Solutions: 
  • Evaluate the results of Filing analysis / Rheology /  Thermal analysis and suggest best solution to customers;
  • Provide concept of manifold layout, special components of hot runner system and sufficient data of application to the designer to ensure optimum hot runner system is designed;
  • Enquire for quotation status to customers, agents, sales rep, for sales prospects evaluation;
  • Review quotations submitted by Agents / Sales Rep when required and send to customer;

 

  • Other:
    • Develops/reviews process with the view to reduce waste through process improvement;
    • Travel to the customers’ sites as required.  For TSEs that handle STAMP Customers, visit every STAMP customer at once every six months;
    • Provide leadership and mentorship to cross functional project teams;
    • Track on hold orders to help resolve issues to ensure a quick resolution;
    • Review and resolve incidents and provide technical support for spare part issues of hot runner system;
    • Technically supports complex cases regarding returns and repairs;
    • As necessary, evaluate product and determine disposition, including recommending product repair;
    • Assist in the resolution and closure of NCRs;
    • Train new Technical Sales Engineers assigned to a territory;
    • Ensure compliance with Health and Safety program;
    • Ensure ISO guidelines are followed for assigned unit;

 

The incumbent will prepare quotations (pricing) and coordinate work within the required Mold Masters processes to ensure the design and implementation of projects are completed on a timely basis. The incumbent is responsible to solve technical problems related to MM hot runners solutions based upon experience and mechanical engineering principles. They will accomplish goals by utilizing pertinent data from customer contacts, marketing direction, manufacturing capability, tooling design and R&D.   The TSE is the first point of contact for the Customer and is required to update the Customer on the status of the project (order).  If the account is designated as STAMP, extra vigilance will be required to ensure the Customer’s satisfaction.

 

The Technical Sales Engineer is responsible for coordinating the workflow through the Mold-Masters processes in order to meet customer’s timelines. The TSE is responsible for gathering the information necessary for creation of complex and non-standard quotations.  The TSE will negotiate pricing working within permitted parameters.  The TSE will be responsible for the complete cycle of a project and coordinating and leading cross-functional teams.  As the main point of contact for sales and agents, the incumbent will provide highly technical and timely assistance to this group, internal customers and management regarding pricing (quotations for complex and customized applications), risk management, troubleshooting and solutions to incidents.  Additionally, the TSE will be required to support the sales process through the generation of sales and support of the value proposition.

 

The incumbent of this role has hands-on experience that will allow them to manage their workload independently on a daily basis and monitor the status of the project (order) as it works it way through the processes.  As a member of the Technical Sales Engineering Team and the main contact for the sales and agents, the incumbent will be responsible for implementing initiatives to maintain and grow accounts by identifying areas of improvement to better MM customer base and in support of the value proposition through interaction with customers.   The TSE also has the ability to negotiate price points with the permitted parameters.

Skills/Experience:

  • A minimum of six to eight (6 - 8) years related experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with SAP (Pivotal) or an ERP is preferred.
  • The individual should have an excellent record with Engineering, Sales Representatives and Manufacturing to help identify development opportunities and evaluate competitive products. 
  • Previous experience as Process Engineer or Industrial Engineering or Tool and Die Maker would be an asset. 
  • Previous experience with flow/thermal simulation as related to injection molding processes is strongly preferred. 

 

A strong attention to detail, ability to work in a fast-paced environment and excellent organizational skills are required. The incumbent must be capable of reading and interpreting documents such as process documentation, blueprints, operating and instructions and procedure manuals. The ability to write routine reports and to communicate effectively with employees, management, and customers, is a requirement.

Education:

Must have a university degree or College Diploma in Engineering.

 

Travel:

The incumbent must be able to regularly travel within the territory assigned, regionally and/or internationally as required for customer visit.
