Position Summary:

The Software Controls Engineer III is located in Georgetown, ON, and will contribute to the Controls Development Team in designing and developing servo motion control systems. This will involve research into advanced control algorithms, selection of appropriate software and hardware, controls software design, testing, debugging and production implementation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Design and develop IEC 61131 based PLC code for Servo-based applications
  • Define code architecture, perform initial testing and debugging to meet software specifications and standards
  • Independently research, design, develop and improve the software programs that run Mold-Masters control systems in order to meet and exceed customer needs
  • Research into new controls methods and technologies
  • Occasionally visit customer sites to troubleshoot products and provide solutions (as they relate to new products)
  • Assist with creating procedures and documentation for control products
  • Create reports and adhere to documentation standards to capture design implementation
  • Work towards enhancing the quality of products and develop new ideas on control systems
  • Contribute to the IP (Intellectual Property) portfolio of the company
  • Act as a mentor to Engineer, Software Controls Group;
  • Make recommendations for productivity and/or method improvements
  • Ensure ISO guidelines are followed;
 
Skills/Experience:

Experience in programming of secondary injection molding units, knowledge of implementing Servo Drives/Motors in Industrial applications, along with IEC61131based PLC programming, designing HMI in an Industrial setting, and various field-bus communications and Industrial Internet protocols i.e. OPC/UA.


The ability to work in a fast-paced environment is essential.  The incumbent must have the ability to design, code, test, document, and install software programs of a complex nature.  The incumbent must have the ability to write reports and effectively present information and respond to queries from groups of team members, colleagues from other departments and managers.


A strong attention to detail, ability to work in a fast-paced environment and excellent organizational skills are required. The incumbent must be capable of reading and interpreting documents such as process documentation, blueprints, operating and instructions and procedure manuals. The ability to write routine reports and to communicate effectively with employees, management, and customers, is a requirement.


Education:

Must have a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Software & Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering with a minimum of ten (10) of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Specific vision requirements are good general vision, ability to distinguish between colours, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.  Requires close attention to detail to ensure accurateness of conception.  The ability to lift up to 40-60lbs (infrequently) is required.
