Position Summary:

Production Planner & Buyer -   This position is located in Georgetown, ON, and will be responsible to develop, plan and administer inventory and production planning requirements to support production needs in order to meet customers’ demand for Mold-Masters’ operations. The incumbent is responsible for developing and incorporating tracking data to monitor, inventory investment and stocking levels, on-time delivery performance,  WIP, material shortages, inventory data integrity and global inventory reduction initiatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (but not limited to):

  • Initiates and monitors release schedules for Vendor supplied items to ensure timely delivery.  Releases purchase orders to the Vendors (planned order to firm order).  If there are existing purchase orders in the system, the planner will call the suppliers and request the proper changes following the action message report;

  • Plan and purchase goods and services to ensure an adequate supply of material to support the company's objectives;

  • Capable of coordinating the integration of all material deliveries into the supply chain to ensure on time deliveries;

  • Issue purchase orders and maintain open purchase order module to ensure accurate delivery dates and quantities at all times, while maintaining desired inventory levels for routine purchases;

  • Follow up on order acknowledgements with suppliers on open orders to ensure commitment from the supplier;
  • Develop, support and provide accountability for the global inventory stocking initiatives in an effort to maximize all customer requirements in a cost-effective manner;

  • Expedite materials if necessary. Determine root cause for shortages and propose/implement corrective actions;

  • Capable of procuring materials and services with and without the aid of an MRP system;

  • Prepare supplier performance reports on the delivery, cost, and quality of products and services;

  • Maintain accurate dynamic and static purchasing data related to business unit(s);

  • Prepare information required to process and issue purchase orders;

  • Identify cost reduction opportunities in line with company goals;

  • Maintenance of SAP item master file for assigned value stream materials such as; lot sizing, stocking levels, lead times,

  • Develop and monitor supply schedule based on products’ complexity and BOM,  inventory reduction plan, customer delivery requirements and forecast;

  • Maintain products BOM and work with design team on initiatives for BOM optimization that could lead to inventory reduction;

  • Work closely with all planning staff, stockroom personnel, traffic, engineering, production and sales staff, as well as global Mold-Masters’ operations ensuring proper inventories are maintained effectively and efficiently;
  • Review and develop a strategy to reduce all slow moving & obsolete inventories;
  • Take the lead to ensure WIP inventories are properly maintained as per identified objectives;
  • Ensure PO due dates in SAP are maintained and accurate;
  • Communicate discrepancies found on shipments received from vendors and follow up;
  • Proactively communicate potential issues and interruptions of supply;

  • Participate in the make versus buy decisions;

  • Provide guidance and support to global inventory management initiatives;

  • Ensure ISO guidelines are followed and make recommendations for productivity and/or method improvements;


APICS certification is a must; advanced level of knowledge of SAP within an MRP / ERP environment or equivalent integrated software system; planning and inventory management experience in a global environment; must be proficient with MS Office; ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines; ability to multi-task; strong organization and analytical skills; good written and oral communication skills; strong inter-personal skills; good attention to detail given the company wide impact; ability to be proactive and incorporate efficiencies into daily tasks; creative individual with an expected ability to make recommendations for change and continuous improvement initiatives.


Must have a University Degree or College diploma, with a minimum of four to five (4-5) years’ experience with Manufacturing processes, preferably in Machining, and inventory processes or equivalent education and experience
