Process Technician  -   This position is located in Georgetown, ON, and will be responsible for set up and operation of injection molds and injection molding machines. In this role, the Injection Molding Process Technician is responsible for optimizing and troubleshooting injection systems with respect to quality and productivity. This includes verifying the accuracy of the manufactured components against the engineering drawings by measuring dimensions using precision measuring equipment and standard tests, as well as identifying areas of improvement to increase productivity of the mold. The Injection Molding Process Technician will lead continuous improvement initiatives and manufacturing processes to improve the testing processes internally as well as at customer sites.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (but not limited to):

 

  • Set up and operate injection molding machines and auxiliary equipment to mold  products from thermoplastic materials;
  • Install molds in the injection molding machine, setup the mold (cooling, mold opening, ejection) and initiate the start up process (material drying, system heating;
  • Setting and optimizing machine controls, regulating molding temperature, volume of plastic, molding pressure and time, according to knowledge of plastics and molding procedures;
  • Conduct multiple inspections (resistance, visual) on first off pieces to verify compliance with customer specifications;
  • Responsible for changing molds and completing set ups successfully;
  • Review technical inquiries of customers to recommend possible solutions related to the operation or maintenance of systems;
  • Completing documentation and test logs and reports which contain the optimal setup and processing conditions as a guide for the customer when they run the mold. Documenting mold or process issues in a test log;
  • Document and record dimensions of the finished piece on SPC chart, to ensure alignment with customer specifications;
  • Conduct minor preventative machine maintenance and service procedures as scheduled;
  • Assemble/Fit mold and hot runner components (simple and complex) for customers and in-house requirements;
  • Conduct minor maintenance and assembly of injection molds as required;
  • Troubleshooting and repair of any equipment issues as required;
  • Ensure tasks are completed in accordance with specified run times;
  • Determine and report malfunctions to the appropriate parties;
  • Travel to customer locations to install, run and optimize the molding equipment manufactured at Mold-Masters;
  • Travel to customers to troubleshoot, debug and repair issues with customer molds;
  • Maintain cleanliness of equipment and area and conduct minor preventative maintenance procedures;
  • Make recommendations for productivity and/or method improvements;
  • Ensure ISO guidelines are followed;

 

Skills/Experience:

Experience with Statistical Process Control and Design of Experiment is required. Millwright experience would be considered an asset. Co-Injection/multi-component injection molding experience is considered an asset. The incumbent should have a good understanding of the surrounding auxiliary equipment like dryers and cooling systems.  A strong troubleshooting ability, attention to detail, and ability to work in a fast-paced team environment and excellent organizational skills are required. The incumbent must be capable of reading and interpreting documents such as safety policy and procedures, blueprints, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Good written and oral communication skills; strong inter-personal skills; good attention to detail given the company wide impact; ability to be proactive and incorporate efficiencies into daily tasks; creative individual with an expected ability to make recommendations for change and continuous improvement initiatives. In order to successfully meet the customer requirements, an individual must be able to operate the machinery with efficiency to produce accurate parts; in addition, individuals must be able to multitask while organizing daily work schedules.

 

Education:

High School Diploma with a minimum of three to four (3-4) years related experience, and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
