Mold Masters is looking for an Embedded Firmware Engineer to join our team in Georgetown, ON.   

The Embedded Firmware Engineer will design, develop, and modify new and existing software control systems for Mold-Masters products based on business goals. This will involve research into advanced control algorithm design, selection of the appropriate software and hardware, code design, code testing, debug and production implementation.  The Embedded Firmware Engineer will evaluate designs and processes from a highly technical perspective and facilitate the development of new control systems and troubleshoot existing products. The incumbent will be required to prioritize and provide solutions for highly technical problems and provide recommendations to management concerning issues of programmer productivity and software development management.  These decisions impact critical systems and can impact customer plant efficiency.

This position will provide support for the R&D Operation through the creation of new products in conjunction with the R&D Team.  The incumbent will also be required to possess the ability to optimize, add new features and improve existing control systems.  The incumbent will work closely with the R&D team to help quickly identify and resolve problems, while actively participating in improving control systems design processes and implementing changes.

What you’ll do:

  • Hardware and software architectural design for embedded systems based on micro-controllers or mobile CPUs;
  • Be on the lookout for new technologies, propose R&D activities, as well as improvements to existing product to meet and exceed customer needs;
  • Maintain and enhance embedded software for existing product lines
  • Own the embedded software system design cycle from requirements through launch and beyond.
  • Integrate, verify, and validate new product designs and design changes.
  • Work closely with hardware engineers on designs and high-level component selection, and troubleshooting of product hardware.
  • Write and maintain documentation for firmware, including technical specifications and test reports.
  • Work in a team environment with HW and other project engineers and coordinate design and implementation work.
  • Interface with a cross-functional engineering team.
  • Support the Tech Support team with product knowledge.
  • Develop procedures and documentation for all processes (user instructions), software and control systems
  • Contribute to the IP (Intellectual Property) portfolio of the company; Ensure ISO guidelines are followed

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a concentration in Computer Sciences, Software Engineering or Electrical Engineering OR (7+ years) related experience and/or training; OR equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in embedded C programming, RTOs, IDE tools, and debugging tools such as JTAG.
  • Experience with microcontrollers and low-level hardware interfaces, e.g. SPI and I2C, working with standard peripherals such Flash, RAM, ADCs, EEPROM etc.
  • Experience using and understanding of communications systems such as serial, Ethernet, CAN, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 802.15.4 etc.
  • Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout for embedded systems design
  • Experience with power electronics and signal processing design
  • Understand electronic principles, control theory, and their application
  • Extensive Linux experience
  • Experience with the Git version control system.
  • Skilled in usage of test equipment; oscilloscopes, power supplies, signal generators, etc.
  • Strong communication skills (interpersonal and written) and organizational skills with a proven ability to collaborate with team members in a fast-paced multi-disciplined environment
  • Excellent technical, analytical, problem-solving skills, with strong attention to details

Great to Haves:

  • Working Experience with Python, C++, QT
  • Working experience on circuit simulation (PSICE, LTspice, etc)
  • Design experience for EMC compliance
  • Working experience with regulatory bodies to ensure that products pass testing for relevant certifications. E.g UL/FCC/CE
