The Director of Strategic Marketing & Innovation’s responsibility is to accelerate innovation to identify solution opportunities to expand business while building trust and loyalty with customers.  The role requires a self-driven, innovative leader, who plans and oversees the strategic vision for Milacron’s solution portfolio opportunities and aligns product development, manufacturing and service initiatives.  This individual will serve as a key member of the engineering team bringing their market expertise and strategic thinking to support the overall organizations strategy and direction. Leveraging internal and external data, this role will make data driven decisions and recommendations that ensure short, mid and long-term goals support company success and financial objectives. As a key element of the position, the Director will be responsible for collaborating with sales (forecasting), customer experience, marketing services and product management to ensure that we are bringing our best to the market. Additionally, they will partner with sales and marketing services to ensure effective and accurate messaging providing true Milacron value proposition of solutions, technology, service, and sales representation as well as develop and execute effective strategies to increase sustainable market penetration and expand our reach globally.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

 

  • Responsible for the strategic leadership of identifying and developing longer term opportunities that provide competitive advantage.
    • Deep customer understanding to understand market opportunity and unmet customer needs.
    • Translate voice of the customer to viable and sustainable differentiated solutions.
    • Initiate a Customer Advocate group to learn fast and provide early input to New Solution development.
  • Owns the strategy process for the organization and responsible for communicating the strategy and updates to the Executive team and the organization
  • Leverages market data to understand the size and scope of growth potential among different market segments and develop marketing strategies appropriately.
  • Identify potential market opportunities to deepen and strengthen our footprint - organic, innovative, partnership, joint-venture and acquisitive driven growth, including ownership of inorganic platform opportunity target-lists and pre-due-diligence processes.
  • Manage the process of bringing new customer solutions and product versions to market, including influencing pricing and messaging strategies with Product Management.
  • Sets priorities and executes strategy for the businesses.
  • Maintain a strong pulse on the education industry by staying close with clients, prospects, industry leaders and competitors to identify and promote revenue opportunities for the Company.
  • Owns the allocation of budgets for marketing and performance metrics linked to business goals (especially revenue growth and member engagement).
  • Leads development of appropriate, segmented value story assets for Sales/Sales Support to then customize for their accounts.
  • Drives the design and execution of marketing campaigns to meet business objectives by understanding and aligning to the businesses’ strategy.
  • Creates and owns the Go-To-Market strategy for new solutions, products, and services.
  • Shapes business brand strategy.
  • Data and results-driven marketer; expert in business to business (B2B), and business to business to consumer (B2B2C) best practices in both digital and traditional direct channels.

 

 

Skills/Experience:

  • 15+ years of experience in marketing and business development and managing both cross functional/matrix teams and teams of direct reports, implementing large scale initiatives and tracking results, upgrading processes and systems, as well as problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work across all levels and lead through influence.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills required; ability to recommend alternative solutions and translate complex concepts into simplified and understandable examples.
  • Strong business acumen and attention to detail. Understanding of large capital equipment manufacturing with heavy material purchasing experience.
  • Ability to work on significant and unique issues where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of intangibles. Exercises independent judgment in methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Creates formal networks involving coordination among groups, both internal and external.
  • Exhibits positivity, flexibility, creativity, and a willingness to take on new responsibilities as requested or required.
  • Technically proficient in areas of marketing, business development, product management/development, manufacturing, and quality systems.
  • Excellent leadership skills, as evidenced by a track record of hiring, retaining, developing and motivating top marketing, product management and business development talent.
  • Identifies strategic opportunities for solutions, technologies and services to customers by being the voice of the customer
  • Demonstrates an ability to think beyond the current situation and conceptualize innovative and visionary approaches to broad business challenges.
  • Ability to translate a business strategy into specific team objectives, breaking down organizational boundaries through collaboration, building strong relationships based on trust with all levels of employees, and a track record of personal engagement with customers, partners and suppliers.
  • Ability to work collaboratively through various department and functions and promote a culture of proactive teamwork.
  • Ability to influence others and interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Negotiating, influencing, and change management skills.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including listening and ability to explain complex ideas and technologies, and writing and presenting formal presentations.
  • Strong strategic, critical thinking, and conceptual abilities; ability to lead strategic planning discussions.
  • Possesses a deep understanding of the business strategies and serves as the business’s strategic marketing advisor.

Education:

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or related field.  MBA or related master’s degree is desired.

Travel: Ability to travel up to 30% globally.
