Position Summary:

Hillenbrand is looking for a Global Trade Controls Import/Export Lead to provide support as part of global GTC team. The GTC Import/Export Lead’s primary responsibilities are to assist the GTC Manager in the development, implementation and maintenance of both import and export compliance programs.  There will be a strong emphasis on training and support of regulatory Import/Export compliance while interfacing with Hillenbrand management, OpCo’s and employees at all levels.

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

• Supports the strategic development, delivery and execution of a standardized trade compliance program to support the enterprise for the functional area of responsibility in coordination with the GTC Manager

• Support the investigations, audits or disclosures regarding the company's import and export compliance activities globally

• Based on audit findings this role will assist with root cause analysis and supporting resolution of compliance issues as needed.

• Support the Trade Compliance training for the Americas. To be prioritized in accordance with the                                                                            GTC Manager as needed

• Stay current in company international Trade Compliance regulations, policies, training, audit programs and train corporate Trade Compliance initiatives for the Americas.

 • Researches trade regulations and rulings, determines regulatory or interpretive basis for each classification, and communicates with internal clients and external service providers

 • Follows the company's international trade compliance policies in coordination with goals and objectives of the GTC Manager.

 • Support the trade compliance related recordkeeping program and organization on a regular basis for the appropriate functional area of responsibility as needed.  

• Responsible for daily interaction with compliance service providers to resolve related inquiries and requests.

• Monitor/Manage daily trade compliance related international transaction holds, reviews and information needed without disruption while ensuring compliant transactions.

• Supports projects as needed.

• Assist with the development, implementation and keeping current standard operating procedures and work instructions to support functional area of responsibility as needed.

 • Stay abreast of all issues and regulations that impact trade compliance activities.

 • Liaison with internal departments across business units on regulatory and duty matter as needed.


 • 3-5 years of experience in trade compliance

 • Familiarity with logistics processes across different transportation modalities

• Experience with customs compliance activities outside of North America such as Mexico, Brazil, etc.

 • Proficiency with MS Excel and data management, ability to process large data sets, identify abnormalities, challenges, or areas of attention.

 • Experience performing post entry audits, post entry corrections and protests

• Ability to function both as a team and individual player with the ability to shift priorities as required by the trade compliance team and business operations.

• Support performance metrics and evaluate internal and external service providers.

• Demonstrated skills in resolving business challenges

 • Analytical skills be detailed oriented and possesses the ability to anticipate problems and diffuse situations.

 • The ability to multitask and ability to work under time constraints and business priorities


• Undergraduate degree required

• US Customs Broker license
