Position Summary

The Digital Technology Director, reports to the CIO and is responsible for identifying and defining ideas and opportunities to leverage technology in ways that expand our business model, build customer relationships and drive innovation.  This role is accountable for leading our digital transformation efforts and will bring a unique mixture of business and technology expertise to provide direction and insight to help turn our transformation vision into action. This role could be based in Cincinnati, OH, Batesville, IN or Pitman, NJ.

This leader must maintain an in-depth knowledge of evolving trends and the latest advancements in technology, strategy, and management to develop innovative solutions and approaches. This role will understand best practices and requires a person who can take complex problems and formulate a compelling plan to drive to solutions, apply a customer-obsessed mentality, balance quantitative and qualitative inputs to drive to recommendations, and gain consensus among senior leaders. The role will also proactively build and manage an external network of digital innovators and strategic vendor partners to leverage and develop influential partnerships across the organization. This leader must be a technologist with strong business foundation, proven expertise in improving productivity, driving business partner satisfaction, and maintaining technology and security controls.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Work closely with executives across the organization to understand their business objectives and goals, define the ways in which technology can enable their priorities, and shape these ideas into a multi-year digital strategy
  • Develop strategic ideas to leverage digital technologies to solve customer issues and unmet needs and enable new business opportunities
  • Drive insights from detailed analysis of technology landscape and market trends to support evaluating, prioritizing and developing the company’s digital & technology road map
  • Identify new digital capabilities and emerging technologies and assess their impact, opportunities and threats, to shape the strategic direction of technology innovation efforts
  • Build story lines and compelling presentations to socialize strategies and build consensus with varied audiences, from executives to business and technology teams
  • Improve value creation by defining and aligning on KPIs to measure success
  • Serve as a thought leader, idea generator and source of inspiration to the broader organization
  • Oversees the development, implementation and execution of multiple projects ensuring scope and schedule are established for projects; oversees operating plan and resource allocation for the department, including prioritization and staff deployment; acts based on changed priorities
  • Develops and maintains a network of industry contacts; performs or directs research on industry trends, competitors, business and IT products; analyzes trends and makes strategic and tactical recommendations
  • Responsible for maintaining culture, setting up recruiting strategies, implementing process to allow scale and, ultimately, establishing Hillenbrand as an IT employer of choice in the industry
  • Build a team of highly motivated Digital Strategists by identifying needed skills and capabilities and work to fill those roles as needed, including, recruiting and hiring, training
  • Develop, coach, and inspire a team, while creating an inclusive team culture that enables all members of the team to thrive
  • Provide mentoring and advisory perspectives across the broader organization

 

 

 

Supervisory Responsibilities


Directly supervises employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance to the Company policies, the Code of Ethical Business Conduct and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education

Bachelor’s degree (B.S./B.A.) or equivalent from a college or university with IT focused specialization.  A minimum of 10 years related experience in a global company with significant international experience in hands-on technology delivery roles. 

Skills/Experience

  • Experience with Digital/e-Commerce/IIOT solutions; preferably in manufacturing industries
  • At least 5 years hands-on experience with IT technologies, cloud applications, mobile, social media
  • Strong data analytics background with experience is developing use case, deep understanding of managing data and generating insights thru visualization
  • Product development/marketing or customer journey mapping experience
  • Hands-on industry experience in customer / user experience and product / service design (Including Lean, evidence-based experience research and design, including both qualitative and quantitative methods)
  • B2B SaaS, CAD / CAM / CAE, and Additive Manufacturing background
  • Familiarity with Front-End platforms (e.g. AngularJS, ReactJS)
  • Familiarity with Machine Learning and Deep Learning concepts
  • Familiarity with MES
  • Ability to collaborate with technical resources to influence algorithms and other technology for improved customer experience
  • Experience leading and driving end-to-end design process and deliverables in an enterprise context
  • At least 10 years experience directly managing people, including hiring, developing, motivating, and directing people as they work
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills as well as experience interacting with executive management and other key constituents required

Travel   - Employee must be able to travel up to 15 – 20%
