The Hillenbrand Internship Experience

Our 10-12 week internships provide an opportunity for students to gain valuable hands-on experience through rewarding projects and robust summer programs. We assign challenging tasks that build on the intern’s skills and enhance their business savvy. From the start, interns are given a mentor, engage with executives, visit multiple company locations, participate in team building exercises, and attend several entertaining activities. All of this strategic programming focuses on the company’s key core competency, intentional talent development, which emphasizes their personal growth. 


Project Summary 

The Communications Intern will have an opportunity to be involved in projects with internal and external visibility, working with cross-functional teams and develop written and visual materials and presentations. You will gain valuable experience working in a corporate communications environment while interacting with company leadership, conducting research and learning how to work independently with managerial oversight. You will be exposed to many different areas of the business and be able to direct your experience accordingly.    

 Project Deliverables

  1. Internal Communications - contribute to monthly internal employee newsletter
  2. Media Tracking - monitor industry trends, track media for Hillenbrand and operating companies
  3. Event Planning - assist in planning internal and external events to support community relations
  4. Content Organization - develop framework and organization structure for internal storage of documents and videos
  5. External Content - Develop content for external facing website
  6. Social Media - Develop content for Hillenbrand social media channels


Required Skills

  1. Content Editing - preparation of monthly content for internal newsletter, coordination with designer
  2. Media tracking and reporting 
  3. Preparation of collateral material 
  4. Project Management
  5. Website & Intranet maintenance 
  6. Social Media content development - creating content schedule for social channels 

Preferred Skills

  1. Proficient in writing for internal and external audiences
  2. High level of attention to detail - spelling, grammar, style, formatting and consistency
  3. Efficient in MS Office Suite
  4. Highly organized and able to effectively manage multiple projects with differing deadlines
