The Sales Engineer directly participates in the sales and support for compounding/extrusion business.  He/she will coordinate closely with the Business Unit Manager in developing goals and strategies, preparing annual forecasts, generating and following up on leads, pricing, guiding a project through evaluation and bidding phase, closing the sale, coordinating with the project management group, and soliciting post-completion customer evaluations.  Also keeps the BU Manager informed about the latest technical and commercial developments involving and helps to assure a strong presence in the marketplace.


Responsibilities:

  • Develops new leads and increases the customer base.
  • Negotiates and closes sales with the assistance of the Business Unit Manager.
  • Assists in developing marketing strategies. Perform Market research as required by the business groups.
  • Coordinate efforts in the sale of machine services with Regional Sales Managers and Customer Service sales personnel to ensure that all sales personnel are kept informed of sales activities in the food extrusion business sector.  Coordinates with Systems Sales Managers to ensure that there is a potential mutual development of equipment sales into systems/turnkey sales and vice-versa.
  • Utilize mechanical and electrical know-how to prepare quotations and proposals independently for Coperion extruder equipment applications.
  • Review inquiry specifications and develop extruder process specifications as well as simple flow sheets.
  • Discuss and develop solutions together with the process and system group.
  • Consult with customers to understand their needs and find the best suitable and economical solution.
  • Provide a gross margin calculation for each extruder and system quotation.
  • Coordinate efforts on customer management, lab tests, startup assistance, replacement parts, and service.
  • Attends appropriate trade shows, conferences, and technical meetings to keep up to date in food extrusion technology and to maintain Coperion’s visibility in the marketplace.
  • Maintains contact with CWP personnel to exchange technical and commercial information and to keep informed about the progress on ongoing projects.
  • Monitors and research customer complaints. Communicate with management and customers are required.


  • Bachelor’s degree of Science in Engineering or related field.         
  • Minimum of two-three years’ experience in engineering, technology and/or sales of capital goods, i.e. plastics machinery or similar.
  • Excellent organization and communication skills.
  • Ability to travel 40% of time
  • Work in close cooperation with the Engineering group Business Unit Manager and the Company’s other sales and technical personnel.
  • Able to conduct technical/sales presentations in front of large groups of engineers and other technical personnel.
  • Troubleshooting skill (mechanical, software, electronics)
  • Proficiency with MS Office suite.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Persuasive Professional communication skills both written and verbal
