Purchasing and Planning Manager




Responsible for supporting the operational, tactical, and strategic direction of the materials management and planning functions. Supports activities in the following areas: purchasing, master planning, supplier quality, expediting, inventory master data, and inventory control. The Purchasing and Planning Manager drives improved material and planning processes to meet daily assembly demand in support of on-time delivery.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

·         Develops and implements the production planning and procurement of direct materials

·         Responsible for the leadership of the Planning and Procurement teams

·         Measures, analyzes and improves direct material inventory turns, adherence to MOQ, and bill of materials accuracy and obsolesce by implementation of corrective action and process enhancements.

·         Weekly measures

·         Monthly KPI process

·         Works and builds relationships cross functionally within the facility and throughout the organization.

·         Supports site objectives and goals that are set by the facility.

·         Leads processes, tools, and best practices (e.g., spend analytics, regression, should-cost modeling, training) Support ERP – best practices

·         Manages master planners to drive revenue linearity and productivity to meet facility goals.

·         Manages relationships/partnerships with suppliers for the facility.

·         Works closely with SPE’s, engineering, and assembly to provide accurate lead times and commitment dates to customers

·         Executes on strategic objectives of the materials management function and how it relates to the overall strategic objectives of the company.

·         Supports budget targets and spend management as it relates to the materials management function.

·         Executes on and supports implementation of processes and procedures surrounding inventory that aim to match supply and demand while, where appropriate, applying the lean methodology including pull systems and throughput.

·         Partner with cross functional leads to promote overall inventory accuracy across all possible inventory locations.

·         Continuously evaluates the plant operations, production planning and material workflow for increased throughput and productivity.

·         Collaborates across functions to promote problem solving and cost reduction

·         Collaborates with sourcing to ensure suppliers are meeting, quality and delivery requirements

·         Collaborate with logistics to ensure expediting cost are maintained to a minimum

·         Optimize and consolidate order quantities where applicable to minimize logistical cost

Education and Experience:

·         A/BS Degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics or similar discipline (required)

·         APICS certifications in CSCP or CPIM (preferred)

·         5-10 years in Operations Management/Supply Chain Management, experience in cross functional teams (required)

·         ERP/SAP and Master Requirements Planning systems experience (required)



·         Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and influencing skills to run cross-functional teams and drive projects forward, ensuring time and resources are used effectively and efficiently to meet project and business objectives.

·         Strong sense of urgency & attention to detail

·         Excellent organization, communication and follow-up skills

·         Able to influence others & manage conflict

·         Ability to self-direct and take constructive action in ambiguous situations

·         Analytical with a methodical approach to problem solving


Work Environment:

Office / Warehouse environment. Employee may be occasionally exposed to moving equipment, mechanical parts in motion, risk of shock and other hazards associated with a manufacturing environment such as overhead cranes, welding, machining, painting etc. Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach, and move about facilities.
