Mold Masters is looking for a Product Development Engineer II to join our team in Georgetown, ON.  The Product Development Engineer II will plan, prototype, and develop new designs for hot runner and hot runner related products. The incumbent will maintain close working relationships with our customers around the world. They will remain cognizant of the applicability of new, breakthrough technology to our core products.

What you’ll do:

  • Coordinate with assigned project team for each Stage Gate process (scoping, business case, development, testing, and launch); analyze key project metrics;
  • Establish key project metrics (product cost, project costs, schedule) and take appropriate action;
  • Provide consultation with new MML Hot Runner designs; expertise on field issues, and expertise on standard product manufacturing;
  • Review technical inquiries of customers to recommend and quote relevant system; discuss possible new applications when needed;
  • Develop new ideas and concepts, new or improved methods, products, techniques, etc;
  • Advance understanding of material resources and new processes;
  • Plan, develop and perform product testing, and create product testing write ups;
  • Evaluate the results of Mold flow / Rheology /FEA analysis to certify new product safety and performance;
  • Produce Hot Runner assembly and manufacturing drawings of any complexity on an as required basis; mentor and influence Designers;
  • Provide relevant and timely information regarding project to management;
  • Provide regular feedback to Designers on specials designs;
  • Enter business system information as required for SAP (parts lists, etc.);
  • Contact customers and/or suppliers to obtain and exchange information and/or decisions on design and application;
  • Provide report of results at testing stage for internal and external employees, customers and suppliers;
  • Work with patent documents and drawings, review applications and evaluate existing patents;
  • Partake in customer visits as needed; represent the company during launch stage;
  • Ensure ISO guidelines are followed;

The Product Development Engineer is responsible for generating technical data and information necessary for creation of new production drawings and documentation. The incumbent will provide/ conduct research on new products by identifying market trends, introducing new analytical methods, interacting with customers and industry experts, mentoring others engineers and pursuing intellectual property protection.

The Product Development Engineer is required to conceptualize, design and develop new products with the responsibility to solve unique/difficult problems related hot runner and hot runner related products. They will accomplish goals by utilizing pertinent data from peers, customer contacts, manufacturing capability, tooling design and outside sourcing.  In addition to sharing expertise to the team, the Product Development Engineer will be required to use CAD tools to design optimum system operation be required to use CAD tools to design optimum system operation.

Basic Requirements:

  • University Degree in Engineering is required
  • Minimum of five years related experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience with Engineering, Sales Representatives and Manufacturing to help identify development opportunities, evaluate competitive products and determine product costing.
  • Previous experience with material rheology as related to injection molding processes is required.

Great to Haves:

  • Experience with SAP or an ERP is preferred.
  • Previous experience as Process Engineer or Mechanical Engineer or Tool and Die/Mould Maker would be an asset
  • A strong attention to detail, ability to work in a fast-paced environment and excellent organizational skills
  • The incumbent must be capable of reading and interpreting documents such as process documentation, blueprints, operating and instructions and procedure manuals.
  • The ability to write routine reports and to communicate effectively with employees, management, and customers, is a requirement.
