Position Summary

Provides leadership to managers, supervisors, and/or professional staff daily direction and leadership to all manufacturing departments.  Ensure compliance to all policies, procedures, and government regulations.  Enforce company directives and safety policies.  Develop and review expense budgets for each department.  Implement and develop training and productivity improvements.  Ensure compliance to the company's quality system.  Decisions are guided by resource availability and functional objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.
  • Accountable for the performance and results of multiple related units
  • Conducts daily operations meetings and routinely scheduled departmental meetings.
  • Performs periodic review of departmental budgets.
  • Reviews operating metrics while developing methods and procedures to improve them.
  • Develop and implement process and procedures to reduce cost, improve quality, improve safety, and increase productivity.
  • Ensure  proper protection of all company assets.
  • Assure that customer needs are met by monitoring production output compared to plan
  • Develop and train supervisors, managers and key associates.
  • Manage employees utilizing Human Resources processes, including performance reviews and performance expectations, IDP’s, work responsibilities, top grading, etc.  Follow all company policies/practices.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises employees. Manages 2-8 subordinate supervisors who supervise a total of 10-500 employees. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. May also directly supervise  non-supervisory employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
 
Travel  

Employee must be able to travel 25% of the time.

 

Education  
 
Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) from four-year college or university; and three to six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
 
Required/Preferred Skills
  • Strong proven leadership capability, prior supervisory experience is a requirement
  • Ability to direct solutions of highly complex business problems
  • Proven ability to effectively manage supply chain and ensure all aspects are optimized
  • Ability to direct, motivate, and manage direct reports and cross functional teams
  • Ability to work independently and solve problems
  • Possess analytical, logical, and strategic thinking skills
  • Expert-level negotiation skills and experience negotiating high profile contracts. Strong contract writing skill sets and legal knowledge of applicable terms and conditions
  • Ability to work cohesively with all levels of internal and external customers; ability to communicate across functional and multicultural lines
  • Possess strong organizational, written and verbal communication, problem solving and time management skills
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals
  • Able to review and write capital fund request for changes generating or sustaining improvements in cost, quality and/or delivery
  • Employ advanced program and project management tools, solutions, and techniques
  • Solve problems and make tactical and strategic decisions for all assigned responsibilities
  • Possess ability to multi-task and manage many responsibilities and projects at one time
  • Excellent presentation skills and proven ability to influence audience to desired action and build credibility with customers
  • Excellent computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook are required.
Required/Preferred Experience
  • Knowledge of JD Edwards or PeopleSoft
  • Understanding of lean principles and problem solving techniques
  • Familiar with manufacturing systems, material flow, and associated processes
  • Familiar with Six Sigma and/or principles in statistical control
  • Metal Fabrication / Industry Knowledge
  • Wood Processing / Fabrication / Industry Knowledge
  • CPSM, APICS, or similar professional organization member relating to supply chain management
  • Formal Lean training
