The Hot Half Assembler for Mold-Masters in Georgetown, Ontario Canada will prepare and ensure mold plates meet proper specifications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Prepare Mold plates by cleaning, deburring, inserting plugs, leader pins, bushings, name plate, electrical box, and perform a plate water pressure test, recording the results on the Mold Plate Assembly Certificate;
  • Ensure manifold plate thickness and nozzle bore depths meet correct specifications;
  • Prepare hot runner systems components - install seals, and thermocouples, torque assembly, and torque;
  • Ensure nozzles are installed within tolerance limit, and label zones on wires;
  • Troubleshoot by performing, turning, milling, drilling, and/or grinding as required to accurately fit components to the hot runner system;
  • Machine locator pin to size, fit and install into manifold and secure;
  • Prepare electrical box, install nozzle wires in corresponding zones as per electrical drawing specifications;
  • Conduct electrical tests as required and record results on the Mold Plate Assembly Certificate;
  • Perform heat test on the Hot Runner System – hook up department or customer heat controller to ensure electrical system is functioning correctly, and record results on the Mold Plate Assembly Certificate;
  • Perform a pneumatic test on the hydraulic plate system as required;
  • Ensure that all machining/assembly tasks are completed in accordance with specified run times to meet customer delivery schedule;
  • Conduct minor preventative maintenance procedures as scheduled;
  • Complete minor troubleshooting as required;
  • Notify Team Leader when run times are incorrect or product will not meet timelines;
  • Report discrepancies to the appropriate department;
  • Provide guidance and/or training for apprentices when required;
  • Make recommendations for productivity and/or method improvements;
  • Ensure ISO guidelines are followed; follow Job Instruction Sheets and Tag Procedures etc;

Skills/Experience:
  • A strong attention to detail, ability to work in a fast-paced environment and excellent organizational skills are require
  • Must be capable of reading and interpreting documents such as safety policy and procedures, blueprints, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and to communicate effectively with co-workers, management and possibly external suppliers/customers is a requirement.  
  • A mechanical aptitude, ability to apply common sense and problem solve involving several concrete variables in standardized situations is required.
  • Hot Half Assemblers will be required to multi-task and set up and work on more than one Hot Half at a time.
Education:

Must be a Certified General Machinist or Electrician with a minimum of two (2) years post-apprenticeship experience, and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • A variety of Physical and Sensory demands are required throughout the shift, including the lifting of heavy materials with use of Overhead Crane, setting of tools, close attention to details with programs, specifications, blueprints and measuring of parts. Some aspects of jobs follow a monotonous process.
  • While performing the duties of this position, the individual will be in contact with manual machinery and equipment. There may be contact with oils; noise level is moderate; safety boots and eye/ear protection are required; the working area is climate controlled.  In addition, the successful incumbent will be required to sit, stand, walk, use hands to handle and feel, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. The employee may occasionally be required to crouch. The employee may occasionally lift items as heavy as 25lbs. Specific vision abilities may include the employee’s ability to see near and far distances.
